Allison GraysonMy name is Allison Grayson, and I am a Journalism student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas and later moved to Davis, California to attend high school (due to a military transfer). Being the daughter of a large animal veterinarian and an ex-horse trainer, I have grown up around horses, cattle, and other animals my entire life. I have, in the past, been very competitive in equestrian competitions, which has furthered my knowledge of horses. At Cal Poly, I am a member of Sigma Alpha (an agricultural sorority), the Cal Poly Stocker Cattle Enterprise, Vines to Wines Club and the Young Cattlemen’s Convention. Outside of college I am also a member of American Agri-Women, as well as California Women for Agriculture. I hope to graduate from Cal Poly in 2013 and either work in agricultural journalism or go to law school and work in agricultural law.
In writing this blog, I hope to give people information that they may not otherwise have about how their food gets to their table. I think it is important to know where your food comes from in order to make informed decisions on where you buy your food and who you buy it from. I also think that people sometimes underestimate how important farming is to our livelihood as people, and the agriculture industry is much more understandable when you can view aspects of the process yourself. I hope everyone enjoys this blog and finds it informative as well!
